In a major new development, Moussa Sissoko, the agent of Ousmane Dembele has arrived in Barcelona to hold talks over a new contract for the Frenchman, reports SPORT.
Dembele’s current deal with Barça stands to expire in a couple of months and talks over an extension have yet to yield the desired results.
For the longest time it seemed like the 24-year-old would be allowed to leave on a free transfer in the summer after negotiations broke down towards the start of 2022. However, things have changed in recent months.
Dembele has been performing admirably on the field, riding high on the faith and backing of manager Xavi Hernandez. His improvement and ability to impact games have led the club to reconsider their position on his future.
Barça restarted negotiations with Dembele’s agent last month when club director Mateu Alemany flew out to Morocco to speak with Sissoko about the contract.
The meeting did not lead to any positive outcome as the two parties remain far apart in their respective valuations over the contract. But it also showed that both Barcelona and the player’s camp are not willing to close the doors on an extension as of yet.
On Tuesday, reports claimed that the Catalans were soon set to meet the winger’s representative again soon. Now, it is being claimed that Sissoko has landed in Barcelona and will hold a meeting with Barcelona officials to restart negotiations over a new deal.
With other clubs also intensifying contacts with the Frenchman’s camp, this meeting could be decisive with regard to the winger’s future at Barcelona beyond the ongoing campaign.
It will be interesting to see if the two parties are capable of arriving at a compromise or whether Dembele moves on to a different club at the end of the season.
