As reported by journalist Manu Carreno on SER, Jorge Messi, the father of former Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, has requested Joan Laporta to stop speaking about the Argentine international in the media.
After spending his entire career at Barcelona, Messi departed the club last year as Laporta and his board were not in a position to extend his expired contract. The 34-year-old signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract with an additional option of twelve months.
Despite facing some difficulties in his debut season in France, Messi helped PSG win the Ligue 1 title. As for Barça, they endured a difficult 2021/22 campaign that ended without any trophy while they just about made it to the second place in La Liga.
It has been almost a year since Messi departed Camp Nou, but his name keeps coming up in almost every conversation or interview that president Laporta gives.
The Barcelona supremo had talked about how he did not have any regrets over the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s departure last summer.
More recently, he once again spoke about Messi’s decision to leave and also how it would be impractical for the club to consider re-signing Messi and Neymar in the current financial situation.
“Messi left the way he left. The truth is that we all wanted for him to end his career here. The thing is that when these players sign for Paris, they find that they can never leave,” Laporta had said.
And, it seems like Laporta’s constant mentions of Messi have seemingly irked his camp. As per the report, the PSG superstar’s father and agent, Jorge, called up Laporta a few months ago to ask him not to keep speaking about Messi at every given opportunity.
The conversation, according to the report, was friendly and amicable. But, it is being claimed that the latest statements made by the Barcelona president have upset Messi’s environment.
