“One of the worst” – Thomas Tuchel as fire warning to Chelsea players after losing two games in a row at Stamford Bridge

Thomas Tuchel as fire warning to Chelsea players after losing two games in a row at Stamford Bridge

It’s been a pretty miserable week for Chelsea Football Club after losing two games in a row at Stamford Bridge and not just that, but conceding seven goals in those two matches.

This has been largely out of character when you factor in March at least, where we went through the whole month winning every single game even in the face of what was going on off the field with the sanctions and the ownership situation.

But these last two matches the players have looked flat, they’ve looked off, and they’ve not been on it at all.

Thomas Tuchel has rightly called out his players after losing 3-1 to Real Madrid basically after individual errors. Edouard Mendy was woeful and gifted Benzema his hat-trick, and Romelu Lukaku missed an absolute sitter that anyone else scores 99% of the time. Add to that a non-existent collective defensive performance at the back and in midfield, the players massively let Tuchel down with a lacklustre display. If they were on their game, Chelsea would have at least got a draw.

Tuchel’s words here below from the Chelsea website, are absolutely spot on…

“It is a heavy loss,” Tuchel said. “It was one of the worst first halves that I saw from us here at Stamford Bridge. At this kind of level you cannot play like this individually or as a team.

“From all of us, we were by far not good enough, we were not doing what we are used to doing. The first half was so far from any standards that we set ourselves.

“Everything went wrong in the first half. It was not only about when we pass, how we pass. It was also the intensity in challenges and the desire.

“In the second half I think we had 16 shots to one shot. You can always come back and equalise but if you concede again after 48 minutes it is harder and harder. Still, we had chances in the second half to make it 3-2 and this could have been crucial but not today.”
