‘Very, very good’: Tuchel impressed by 18-year-old Chelsea youngster after he scores in first-team training

Tuchel impressed by 18-year-old Chelsea youngster after he scores in first-team training

Whilst players are away on international duty, some would be excused for thinking time just stands still on the club scene.

Managers can sneak in a cheeky holiday whilst nobody’s looking. Ground staff stop mowing the lawn for two weeks.

But this, obviously, is not the case.

Aside from a small break following the latest round of domestic fixtures, Cobham has not fallen silent in the last fortnight.

Tuchel hasn’t taken his foot off the break

Thomas Tuchel has been putting those available Chelsea members through their paces, aware that there is still plenty to play for this season.

A lot of his squad did jet off with their respective countries for friendlies and World Cup qualifiers, but he was left with sufficient personnel to work on.

This allowed several academy products to step up and show the senior coach what they are made of.

Charlie Webster was fortune enough to earn the call from Tuchel.

Not just that, Stamford Bridge’s German leader also praised the 18-year-old during a bout of training.

In a video posted on Chelsea’s Twitter, two players were captured playing a neat one-two before scoring in a miniature net.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek provided the assist for his teammate and although his face was hidden, Webster’s frizzy long hair gave his identity away.

With a triumphant blow of the whistle, Tuchel ended the session on a high note by saying ‘Very, very good guys.’

Clearly, he enjoyed the actions that went before him.

Hopefully, his pleased reaction was directed towards Webster, who must be desperate to impress whilst the chances are presented to him.

The teenager is yet to make a first-team appearance for Chelsea, despite being a regular at development level.

He has played 26 times across all competitions for the various youth sides, contributing 10 goals in total.

Fingers crossed this is just the start of Charlie’s journey to the top.
